For a start…

I’ve made a few attempts to blog in the past and here is another opening on a subject that is close to my heart and on which I’d like to make a contribution.

I am of Sligo, born there, grew up there in the townland of Cartrontonlena, about 13 miles south east of Sligo town – in the house on the right in the picture below. I was educated there in the first instance and socialised there. I have long since moved on to live elsewhere but I retain a strong interest in all things Sligo, and like many who leave their home place, it just keeps pulling me back – in spirit and mind if not in body

I still have family  there, I still read the local paper every week (the printed version!). I follow its sports teams and its politics. I listen to its music and I support its arts community. I am involved in and interested to develop its business activity. Recession wasn’t easy but then boom time was never that boomy. So I have many perspectives on a place that is going through an interesting time.

This blog is to set out those thoughts – to connect with what I see and hear; to observe, comment, admire, promote, critique, applaud as the case may be.  I hope it will grow to be part of the Sligo conversation, maybe to contribute and if nothing else, a vehicle for my enthusiasm.

Please join in.
