Food glorious food…

A few months back, in my initial burst of new year blogging, I did a quick take on ten places to eat out in the Sligo area that I have experience of and would recommend.

Food isn’t an offer that Sligo has historically been strong on. When I did that post I realised that is not now the case; food wise there is actually something in the area for everybody, whether you live there or are a visitor. That’s good if you live there, it’s really good if you are a visitor and for the area itself, it means visitors will stay longer and, importantly, leave a few euro while they are there, keep people in jobs and make the wheels of the local economy turn.

With all that in mind then, I was delighted to hear from Marie Brouder about ten days ago about the launch of the Sligo Food Trail – a collaborative effort by the restaurateurs, food suppliers, food growers and the agencies across Sligo to bring into one place and display all of the varied best that Sligo has to offer for any lover of food.

It is a ‘who, what, where and how to get there‘ for all and any of the food offerings that Sligo has to offer – basically the promise is that through the Sligo Food Trial website, you can map your own route to choose the cuisine that you love best.

It really is a “wow – I didn’t  know /think of that” experience for me. Whether its elegant Georgian dining,  the big post surf / seaside walk filler, superfood salads, decadent delicacies, DIY pizza or bread baking or even ‘foraging’ for your own food, it is all covered.

It’s a great initiative and I look forward to sampling more and many great tastes and treats in the future. For now, ‘from the outside looking in’ I’ll have to rely on the very tasteful (!) work of Pink Lime Video Productions showcasing the wares of no less than 15 Sligo Food Trail members, with a little help from Kieran Quinn and Steve Wickham
